Mickaela joined the Royal Navy in 2006 as an Engineering Technician (Weapons Engineer) at the age of 18. She saw service on HMS Portland and HMS Bulwark conducting anti-narcotics and anti-piracy operations. In 2011, Mickaela was involved in a car accident and was rehabilitated at Headley Court and Hasler Company. She was introduced to adaptive sport during her rehabilitation and participated in the Warrior Games in 2012 & 2013 in Colorado Springs. She then competed in the Invictus Games London 2014, winning two gold and one silver medal in track (100m and 400m) and powerlifting. Mickaela joined the Invictus Games Foundation in 2015 and has seen the Invictus journey through from all angles as a competitor and now as the Grants & Programmes Director. Her work for the Foundation helps provide sporting and adventurous challenge opportunities beyond the Games to the global Wounded, Injured and Sick community via the online We Are Invictus platform. This platform allows members of the community to connect and support each other through their recovery journeys and is translated into 20 different languages.
